About recycling
Recycling (up-cycling) at Pepavana means that existing products are dismantled or selected to workable parts before starting the project. Sometimes whole jeans have to be unpicked, leaving all the jeans-parts unharmed. We create a new design without losing any piece of the original item. Another fantastic product to recycle is the vintage Dutch blanket from virgin wool. We carefully select only the best and beautiful parts of the blanket for our high-end products. Combining them to create an attractive new item takes time and will result in unique pieces.
Handmade with love & patience
For this particular Curve Layers Shoulder Hand Bag we cut the parts of eight different vintage blankets and sewed layer for layer by hand together before assembling the bag with the sewing machine. After that we trim the seams straight to create that layered look on the edges. Then we wash & felt the bag with hot water and olive soap, rinse it well with cold water, and spin-dry it to get rid of most the water, mould it in shape and let it dry over night. The next day the leather handle is treated with dubbin.
